Willy’s Poyas

  • The name “Poya” originates from the Gruyeres area in Switzerland. It precisely means “to go up in the mountains to the high pastures.” It is a popular art, often of naïve nature, that shows the move of herds of cows to the high pastures that takes place in Spring.

These moves, in Spring, as well as the ones in Fall, when the herds are brought back to the lower parts of the valleys (called the “Désalpe”), are now more a procession where herdsmen and herdswomen proudly parade their cows which are fully decorated with flowers for this occasion.
